Hi, everyone!

It’s been a while, but Sigma Tau Delta has been in full swing for the last year. In December, we hosted a Literary Trivia night. Professors, STD members, and English students and alumni all came out to Gilhooley’s to enjoy some food, each other’s company, and some friendly literary competition. The event went very well…we’d love to do it again at the end of this semester!

We have a few different events coming up. We’ve noticed that some English majors seem to struggle with business writing, so we’ve proposed to hold a professional business development seminar featuring our own Gus Kolich and perhaps some other professors to help with the process of writing business letters, resumes, cover letters, etc.

We’d also like to hold a creative writing salon with the help of Professor Burns. We may even have an alumni student turned author at the event. There will be more information to follow.

Lastly, a brief announcement from Dr. Ambrose:

“The Literature Appreciation Society—a student book club co-founded by Brittany Ciboski [one of our majors], Vicky Villagomez, and a few of their peers—will have its first meeting on Wednesday, March 14th, at 3:00pm in room S113.  The book under discussion will be Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar, and all SXU students are welcome to attend.  Interested parties need only bring a copy of Plath’s text to the gathering [any version will do] and their appetites, as snacks will be provided.”

Tonight’s theme: Guilty pleasure reading. We all do it, so there’s no point in holding back here! Hope to see you all there!

Hi, everyone!

It’s almost induction time again! Please join us Saturday, April 9th, at 11:30 in the 4th Floor Boardroom. This time, we’ll be asking some of you to consider your future with English. What do you want to do? I’m actually at a point in my life where I have no clue what I want to do! Being very interested in writing though, I’ve been considering editing, publishing, magazine or newspaper writing, advertising, PR, and many other careers! We’re also wondering about a relationship you share with a favorite text. Is there ever a text that you revisit that brings back certain memories? Join us for what is bound to be an engaging and lively discussion! We also may hear from our senior seminar students!

We’d also like students to keep in mind that we may have a call for any books you’d like to donate for an upcoming bookdrive. Please e-mail Dr. Tegan or Dr. Rossetti for more information.

Hope your semester is going well!

Updates

Hello, everyone!

Sorry that we’ve taken such a long time to update, but it’s been quite a busy semester! We hope that you all will take a break from the madness and join us for a wonderful evening! See the invitation below for more information.

Greetings English Majors! Sigma Tau Delta cordially invites you to share in a group viewing and discussion of the spectacular film by Lone Scherfig, An Education. In addition to the engaging insight you will earn from your peers, you will also receive pizza. Free food, a great film, and a lively analytical discussion? It can’t get any better than this! Please join us for an exceptionally gripping evening on Wednesday, November 17th at 6:00 PM in the 4th floor boardroom. Please RSVP no later than Tuesday, November 16th by 12:00 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to take a brief break from the stressful semester and get to know your English major peers and faculty. We strongly encourage you to come, as we are certain that you will find the evening quite rewarding!

We look forward to seeing you!

Breeanna Greska and Katie James, STD Officers
